What SSL Does
SSL scrambles the data that moves between your site and your visitor. When someone fills in a quote form, their name and phone number stay private on the way to you. The padlock in the browser shows that this is working.
Without SSL, browsers show a "Not secure" warning. Many people leave a site when they see that. It can also hurt how your site shows up in search.
Why Renewals Matter More Now
SSL certificates do not last forever. The industry group that sets the rules, the CA/Browser Forum, has voted to make them shorter. From March 2026, a certificate can last at most 200 days. That limit drops to 100 days in 2027 and to 47 days in 2029.
That means more renewals. Doing them by hand is how certificates lapse. On our hosting, renewal is automatic, and we watch for failures.
Which Option You Need
- Included SSL covers your main domain and the www version. It comes with every hosting plan.
- Managed SSL is for a site we do not host, or for a special setup. We install it, watch it and renew it.
For most local businesses, the free included certificate is all you need. The padlock looks the same to your customers either way.
Fixing Mixed Content
Sometimes a site has SSL but still shows a warning. This often happens when a page loads an image or script over plain http. We find and fix these links as part of every move. Our guide on SSL certificates covers the basics.
Common Questions
Is SSL really free with your hosting?
Yes. Every hosting plan includes a certificate for your main domain that renews on its own.
Do I need a paid certificate for a small business site?
Almost never. A free domain validated certificate gives the same padlock and the same protection for a normal business site.
Why does my site say Not secure?
Either there is no certificate, it has expired, or the page loads something over plain http. We can check which one and fix it.
How often do SSL certificates renew?
It depends on the certificate. Industry rules now cap them at 200 days, and that limit keeps dropping. On our hosting, renewals happen for you.
